St. Bernadette’s Carnival

We spent most of Saturday in the yard pulling weeds and gathering rocks out of our garden. I was very thankful for the rain to start so I had an excuse to come inside. That evening though I was excited for the St. Bernadette’s Annual Summer Carnival. This is no ordinary kid’s only carnival though – there was a casino!!! So despite the rain and mud, around 7 o’clock we headed over to Westlake to St. Bernadette’s Church and listened to a cover band of The Band and waited for our turn to get on a blackjack table. I finally sat down with my blackjack cheat card only to find out the rules weren’t exactly like Vegas. The odds were even more on the Church’s side. If you pushed you lost, you only got one card when you split, you could only double down on 10s or 11s, etc. I love to gamble though so I decided I was fine letting God have a little extra advantage. I did pretty well for awhile, met a lot of nice people from the community, and had a lot of fun and cheap beers all for charity. Then after literally 8 pushes in a row I hit a hot streak and ended up winning $70 by the end of the night. Kurt lost $25.

The best part of the evening though was watching some fat guy get wrestled down to the muddy ground by 3 cops, arrested, and then dragged out of the casino tent. Now it’s got to be pretty embarrasing to explain why you got arrested at a kid’s church carnival. OIO.
