Letterboxing

This week Kurt’s mom introduced me to a new hobby I think I’m going to really enjoy called Letterboxing. I had never heard of it before but I found out that a letterboxer will hide a small, weatherproof box somewhere in a public place, usually like a park. Each box has it’s own logbook and stamp and clues of how to find it. Once you find the box you stamp your own logbook as proof that you found it and also stamp your own personal stamp (mine is the fleur de lis we used for our wedding gift bags) in the box’s logbook and leave your name and date you found the box. There is more information on letterboxing on Wikipedia. It’s been around for some time and there are letterboxes all over the world. To find clues to where there are letterboxes in your area, visit www.letterboxing.org or www.atlasquest.com

I think it’s a lot of fun because I can take Brownie with me to find most of them and we have been able to hike through the beautiful Metroparks that Cleveland has. Some of them are really hard to find and it takes some puzzle solving and a compass. So far we have found our first 2 at the Westlake Recreation Center and the Avon Lake Reservation. There are a lot more in the city and west side that we are looking forward to finding this fall.
